چکیده

Sputtering properties of graphite and amorphous carbon substrates by hydrogen (H), deuterium (D), and tritium (T) at low incident energies have been studied with the use of classical molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. The sputtering simulations used here are accumulative in the sense that the surface modification due to impinging species are self-consistently taken into consideration. The simulation results indicate that a high level of H/D/T dose accumulation on the top surface is prerequisite for the formation of relatively large-sized sputtered hydrocarbon products. Especially significant isotopic dependence of sputtering yields has been observed at the accumulation dose over 10 cm, which is qualitatively consistent with some of the earlier experimental results.

Molecular dynamics simulation of erosion and surface evolution of tungsten due to bombardment with deuterium and carbon in Tokamak fusion environments

The behavior of tungsten as plasma facing material in fusion environment is investigated using molecular dynamics simulation. Tungsten erosion and surface evolution is simulated during irradiation by carbon and deuterium ions. Non-cumulative pure carbon bombardment on crystal tungsten shows that substrate temperature does not affect carbon trapping rate, implantation depth, and tungsten sputter...

Molecular dynamics studies of the chemical sputtering of carbon-based materials by hydrogen bombardment

A central issue in the performance of tokamak fusion devices is the choice of the plasma-facing materials. During the device operation the plasma-facing surfaces are subject to extreme heat and particle loads, as they are impinged on by escaped fusion plasma particles. Although carbon-based materials have excellent thermomechanical properties in view of the high heat flux, their use in the next...

Temperature dependence of liquid Sn sputtering by low - energy He + and D + bombardment

Absolute sputtering yields of liquid tin from 240 to 420 C due to irradiation by low-energy helium and deuterium have been measured. For ion energies ranging from 300 to 1000 eV, temperature enhancement of liquid tin sputtering was noted. These measurements were obtained by IIAX (the Ion-surface InterAction eXperiment) using a velocityfiltered ion beam at 45 incidence to sputter material from a...

Ion Bombardment of Interplanetary Dust

The recent discovery of ion tracks in interplanetary dust and the increasing evidence for carbon and carburized materials in these objects are strongly suggestive that chemical processing by energetic charged-particle bombardment has occurred during the dust lifetimes. The track density gives a measure of the total ion fluence experienced by the grains. We use this information and laboratory da...

2 8 Fe b 20 05 Energy dependent sputtering of nano - clusters from a nanodisperse target and embedding of nanoparticles into a substrate

Au nanoparticles, prepared by thermal evaporation under high vacuum condition on Si substrate, are irradiated with Au ions at different ion energies. During ion irradiation, embedding of nanoparticles as well as ejection of nano-clusters is observed. Ejected particles (usually smaller than those on the Si substrate) due to sputtering are collected on carbon-coated transmission electron microsco...
